CANADIENS AGREE TO TERMS ON A ONE-YEAR CONTRACT WITH FORWARD JOSEPH BLANDISI

MONTREAL (September 25, 2020) – Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced today that the team has agreed to terms with forward Joseph Blandisi on a one-year, two-way contract. The deal will see Blandisi earn $700,000 in the NHL and $325,000 in the AHL.

Blandisi, 26, skated in 21 games with Pittsburgh in 2019-20, collecting two goals and three assists while serving 10 penalty minutes. The 5’11 and 187 lbs centreman also played 26 games with the Wiles-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the AHL where he registered 14 points (six goals, eight assists), served 57 penalty minutes and posted a -3 differential. He concluded the season with the Laval Rocket, earning four points (one goal, three helpers) in four games.

In career in the NHL, Blandisi scored 10 goals and added 21 assists in 101 regular season games with the New Jersey Devils, Anaheim Ducks and Penguins. He also skated in 188 career AHL games and collected 138 points (49 goals, 89 assists) in addition of serving 334 penalty minutes. He tallied three points (two goals, one assist) in 13 AHL playoff games. Blandisi was selected for the AHL All-Star Classic in 2016-17 when he played with the Albany Devils.

Blandisi had his share of success in the OHL before joining the professional ranks, where he compiled a 0.99 PPG average with 108 goals and 136 assists in 246 games with the Owen Sound Attack, Ottawa 67’s and Barrie Colts. He led the OHL in goals with 52 tallies in 2014-15 when he was with the Colts. Blandisi added 15 points (six goals, nine helpers) in 14 playoff games at the junior level.

Blandisi was selected in the sixth round (162nd overall) by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. He was acquired by the Canadiens in a trade on February 20, 2020.
