CLEVELAND (November 9, 2018) In the first of two games against one another at the Quicken Loans Arena in as many days, the Laval Rocket defeated the Cleveland Monsters 5-1 in a game where Jake Evans, Alex Belzile, Lukas Vejdemo and Maxim Lamarche each had a multi-point night.

Joël Bouchard’s Laval Rocket took control of the game from the get-go and made it difficult for the Monsters — who are new to the American Hockey League’s northern division — to win the game the game as two goals on three shots went on to become three goals on five shots in the first 15:57 of play. Alexandre Alain scored his second, Evans his fourth, and Nikita Scherbak netted his first of the season in the first period to give the Rocket a three-goal lead after one.

The Rocket killed off two big penalties early in the second period to prevent their divisional rivals from getting back in the game. Charlie Lindgren, who earned the game’s second star honours for his 31 save performance, steered aside 13 of Cleveland’s 14 shots in the period and faltered only on a shot from Sonny Milano that came with two seconds remaining.

Another offensive storm for the Rocket in the third period added two goals for the visitors just 47 seconds apart. Evans, who was the game’s first star, sunk his second of the evening with assists from Belzile, who had two points in the victory, as well as Michael Chaput. Vejdemo, who walked away with the third star honours, scored his second of the season to make it a two-point night for himself and to give his team a four-goal lead, which proved to be too much for the Monsters to overcome.

“[The third period] was a collective investment from everyone,” explained Bouchard after the game. “There were no turnovers, no bad decisions, and they did exactly the details I asked of them everywhere on the ice.”
