LAVAL (July 1, 2018) – The Laval Rocket announced today that the team has agreed to terms on a one-year, one-way AHL contract (2018-19) with forward Alex Belzile.
Last season, Belzile suited up for 61 regular season games for the AHL’s San Antonio Rampage, posting 34 points (14 goals, 20 assists). The forward also collected 63 penalty minutes. The 2017-18 campaign was the Laval native’s first complete season in the AHL ranks, where he debuted in 2012-13. He recorded 64 points (28 goals, 36 assists) in 145 games in the AHL.
The 26-year-old played his whole junior career with the Rimouski Oceanic from 2009-10 to 2011-12. He helped his former club reach the QJMHL finals in 2011-12. That season, he collected 92 points (22 goals, 70 assists) in 63 regular season games and added 25 points (7 goals, 18 assists) in 21 playoffs games. During his junior career, Belzile collected 59 goals and 134 assists in 158 games.
The six-foot, 205-pound forward also played in the ECHL, suiting up for the Gwinnet Gladiators, Alaska Aces, Idaho Steelheads, Fort Wayne Komets, and the Colorado Eagles. Belzile amassed 169 points (62 goals, 107 assists) in 168 regular season games in the ECHL, and added 24 goals and 32 assists in 62 playoff games.
