SYRACUSE (November 17, 2018) Eight different players picked up at least one point for the Rocket and Michael Chaput scored two goals in Laval’s 6-4 loss to the Syracuse Crunch at the Onondaga County War Memorial Arena Saturday night, in a game that saw a combined six powerplay goals go on the board between the two teams.

Chaput’s first of the night was a lucky bounce for the Rocket and an unlucky one for the Crunch that came just six minutes into the game, when Chaput tried to make a cross-slot pass to Alex Belzile on the powerplay but failed to complete it as the puck bounced off a Syracuse player along the way and went behind Connor Ingram, who was facing off against Michael McNiven in net. A successful cross-slot pass is what ultimately gave the Crunch their first of the night while on the powerplay as well, but Chaput’s second of the evening and second of the opening frame gave the Rocket a 2-1 lead after one.

Laval’s powerplay hurt the Crunch again early in the second period with Ryan Sproul’s first goal of the season that he slapped by their divisional rival, extending the Rocket’s lead to two. However, another powerplay goal for the Crunch from Carter Verhaeghe as well as an even-strength goal from Alex Barre-Boulet tied the game for Syracuse and sent the teams into the third with three goals each.

The Crunch took control of the game in the third period and locked in their victory with two more powerplay goals from Cameron Gaunce and Cal Foote, as well as with a sixth goal that came while Laval’s net was empty in favour of the extra attacker. Though the Crunch had three goals in the final 20 minutes, the Rocket also got one—Michael Pezzetta netted his first American Hockey League goal with assists from Sproul and Belzile in the final minute to lock in the final score of 6-4.
